As we approach the end of August, we are also coming to the end of the government’s ‘Eat Out to Help Out’ scheme in England. Over the past few weeks I have definitely been making the most of the great discounts and I can’t wait to share where I’ve been visiting with you all… starting with Victors in Oxford!
Victors looks out to the Oxford skyline… …and has beautiful wisteria all around the restaurant!
There are windows that look into the square island-style bar The white brick walls give a clean, modern feel
I have many, many favourite restaurants and Victors happens to be one of them. I’ve been a few times since it opened two years ago and can’t believe I’m only just writing about it now. The Oxford location is on the rooftop of the Westgate with views looking out over the city. The interior is absolutely beautiful with purple wisteria hanging all around. There is a modern yet classic feel about it, which matches the offerings on the menu. There really is something for anyone ranging from sushi to small tapas-style plates (for people like me who can never just choose one thing!) to larger dishes.
Our meat selection of small plates: (left to right) sweet potato fries, chicken skewers, popcorn chicken, Victors fries and lil’ burgers. Our fish selection of small plates: (left to right) shrimp tempura sushi, beef tataki sushi, fried squid, shrimp tempura
I know some people will disagree with this, but I just love to share food. I love to try as many different things as possible and I enjoy experiencing dishes with the people I’m eating with. Hence why whenever I visit Victors, I always have the small plates and have never actually tried one of their larger dishes! When I visited this time, there were four of us so we ordered beef tataki and shrimp tempura sushi, fried squid, shrimp tempura, lil’ burgers, chicken skewers, popcorn chicken, sweet potato fries and Victors fries. It is all really, really delicious but I love the sushi as it is so beautifully presented and the flavours are amazing.
An example of the full menu in June 2019 Some of the small plates at Victors last year, including the cheese beignets
I think Victors may be working on a reduced menu, like many places at the moment, as I’ve previously had the cheese beignets, satay chicken and bao buns which aren’t currently on the menu. If they bring these back then I would definitely recommend them! For people who don’t like to share food then there are ‘big plates’ and pizzas which also look really nice, or you could always get 2-3 small plates to yourself.
The Eternal Autumn and Each Peach mocktails Kiss & Candy cocktail at Victors, which comes with candy floss!
To match the delicious food, the drinks are also lovely at Victors. I have previously had cocktails and had the ‘Each Peach’ mocktail this time. There are so many cocktails that look delicious as well as wine, beers and non-alcoholic drinks. If you fancy a drink before or after your meal then The Alchemist is just across from Victors too. Having a drink there is definitely an experience if you’ve never been before!
I hope you’ve all been taking advantage of the ‘Eat Out to Help Out’ discounts, it’s been lovely to see so many people out and about at restaurants again!
